The Challenge

We who are the global church, the Body of Christ, face a huge challenge. Today, 2000 years after Jesus called us to "go and make disciples of all nations," 2 billion people remain unaware of the Good News of Jesus.

If they do not hear, how can they choose to believe and follow Jesus?

As the world's population increases, so too does the number of people with no opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus. Outreach to these groups can be risky and even life-threatening.

One thing is clear: traditional missionary-sending patterns of the Church have not stopped or reversed this trend. There are many reasons for this; social and religious resistance, language and political barriers, and ethnic unrest all contribute.

But the fact remains that these obstacles keep 97 percent of today's Christian missionaries from working among unevangelized groups. If we are to reach these groups, which account for 28 percent of the world's population, something needs to change. New approaches are needed.
