What do you mean by ‘programs”

The programs in our alliance are grass roots training programs focused on life transformational teaching. They typically meet one evening per week or one day a month for practical training in character development, knowledge and skills of effective leadership.

Each program is owned and operated at the local level. Typically, two or three persons who have attended our Training of Trainers event initiate the program and invite others to join them to provide oversight of the program.

Why do you work with groups of churches?

We believe that it is time for the body of Christ to work together to tackle the leadership crisis. We strive for global cooperation and insist that it begins at the local level. Working together across denominational lines is encouraged since it helps break down the barriers in the church and helps leaders learn from each other. For these reasons we do not work with an individual church.

What are your theological beliefs?

Global Disciples serves to connect and facilitate cooperation within the global Body of Christ among clusters of churches that are engaged in discipleship, mission, and leadership training ministries and share our commitment to:

  • Glorify God, the Creator and eternal Lord of the universe;
  • Exalt the only Savior and risen Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son;
  • Rely on the Holy Spirit to teach, convict, comfort, and empower;
  • Accept the Bible as the divinely inspired, authoritative Word of God;
  • Demonstrate love for those in the church, the Body of Christ;
  • Show love for those without Christ through lives of compassionate service, righteous living, and evangelism;
  • Pray and work diligently to see the Gospel spread to all peoples in anticipation of the glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As grateful recipients of God’s grace we always seek to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8). In each area of responsibility it will be our goal to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Our theological understandings flow within the believers’ church tradition and we embrace the Lausanne Covenant and the Manila Manifesto.

“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ our Lord.” I Corinthians 3:11

How are you funded?

We rely on the generous gifts of our partners in ministry. Sometimes funding for specific events is provided through various foundations. Since our programs do not receive ongoing grants, our expenses are minimal and what is given multiplies leaders and programs.

What happens at a Training of Trainers?

The trainer of trainers event is four days of intensive training for those who want to begin their own locally owned leadership development programs. Participants learn the philosophy of leadership development, look closely at desired outcomes, grapple with the complex question of how leaders are formed, and think about how to contextualize leadership training in their own setting. In addition they learn practical skills for developing their own program and how to create assignments that transform lives. At the completion of the training they produce a plan of action of the steps they will take to develop a local program. Global LEAD Alliance seeks funding for this event to assist the participants to attend and produce the necessary materials for the training. After the TOT is complete the participants develop training programs using locally generated funds. As programs are launched we invite them to join the Global LEAD Alliance which provides ongoing prayer support, sharing of resources and training materials developed by the members and ongoing training for the program leaders.

The TOT event is also a fun time of interacting, learning from each other, building relationships with persons from different backgrounds and growing together.

What is the difference between a TOT and a Consultation?

In a consultation we do what we call ‘leadership training.’ This event may be a one day or several day event. It serves as a model of the type of training we want local churches to do with their leaders. The focus is on building leaders.

In the Training of Trainers (TOT) event, we focus on how to design a program at the local level. We focus on the ‘how to’s’ of developing a program with those who will contextualize the concepts and begin a program.

What results have you seen?

One Training of Trainers (TOT) event normally assists in launching between 5 to 10 programs within one year. Each of these programs trains between 10 and 40 persons per year on an ongoing basis and often multiply themselves and begin other programs in nearby regions.

Further, we continue to see lives transformed as leaders learn what it means to lead like Jesus. Training that is focused on transformation instead of information is new for many leaders.

How can I be involved?

This innovative approach has proven effective and you can be a part by:

  • Praying. Intercessors are welcome to join a monthly day of prayer and fasting.
  • Giving. Every donation towards the initial training (TOT) is multiplied as leaders are raised up year after year at the local level.
  • Going. Join us on site for a training of trainers or consultation.
  • Joining. We will work with you to begin your own leadership development program. You can then join the Alliance.

In what parts of the world are you involved?

We are involved globally and our vision is to have training in every continent. Currently we are involved primarily in Africa and India. We have member programs in the following countries: Kenya, Sudan, Uganda, Congo, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and India. We have done training in Indonesia and expect programs to begin there in the near future.

Why do you form an alliance?

The needs for leadership around the world demand new models of training and new patterns of working together. Each part of the body of Christ around the world has something significant to contribute to leadership development and something to learn from others committed to the same task. It is not accurate, therefore, to assume that a model developed in one location will be universally applicable. It is time to work together in a way that we can learn from each other and grow together.

Global LEAD Alliance is more than a network for learning; it is a strategic alliance whose purpose is to see leadership programs launched, strengthened and reproduced. Working together strengthens the quality of existing leadership development programs and accelerates the creation of new programs through sharing ideas and resources on a global scale. The alliance will assist the body of Christ in every nation to do their part in raising up more effective Christ-like leaders for the expansion of the Kingdom.

We have joined together to:

  • Speed the process of leadership development
  • Provide mutual counsel and support
  • Allow sharing of resources (human and material)
  • Provide program evaluation
  • Facilitate the training of trainers
  • Enable cross cultural reflection
  • Produce global connections
  • Enhance research capabilities
  • Encourage interdependency
  • Support one another in prayer
